Memorabilia at the NEC, November 2004
Posted on 28/11/2004 at 21:54:48 by RozHi folks, I thought I ought to briefly chronicle the first event where TheYakShack.co.uk had a presence. It was so great to see so many of you there, and it was also great to meet some other Shackers for the first time too
:)
I'll tell most of the story with pictures.
This was the spiritual home of the Shack for the duration of the show; the Cards2Collectables stall.
This photo is a bit blurred, sorry about that but we've stitched a couple of photos together to show you the whole stall:
Lots of people came to pick up their Yak Shack badges, and who can blame them...? Even Lawrence Makore (Lurtz / The WitchKing / Gothmog) was caught wearing one:
They were really impressive, wonderfully (almost) hand crafted by Chris/Gimli - thanks Chris.
When Mark wasn't sketching or providing general entertainment behind the C2C stall, we went to meet Warren Martineck - a very famous sketchcard artist who has sketched most recently for the Xena and Thunderbirds sets and has sketched for other interesting sets like Star Trek Voyager over the years.
Needless to say we had him sketch for us :)
Here is the man himself with his work
and these are close ups of the two sketches he did for us:
At dinner later that night we were LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY (like Kylie) enough to sit next to Inkworks' owner - Allan Caplan who (probably when he spotted I wasn't a Buffy or Angel fan) enthused about his next big product, a set to celebrate the movie "Robots" (of course Mark's eyes lit up - as he is very much into anything computer animated/generated and arty). He kindly gave us a promo pack the next morning including two Robots promo cards, I think he plans to have 10 autos and lots of sketches in the set, along with 35mm cards, but we shall see - it's not out until February/March time). The promos are viewable here:
and the suitably embarassing photos from dinner are here:
Me with Allan on the right:
And with Mark on the left (clealy looking towards the camera is for wimps ;))
And last but not least (well at least until everyone else joins in with their photos) here's Mark meeting two of the stars of a British comedy - Red Dwarf:
Overall this was a great show and a fantastic opportunity to view in the flesh complete sets of the Potter update set, there were about 6 triples in the room (at least), and all sorts of variants, Monster Book of Monsters cards with the wooden spine as a swatch, and the Collector Zone had furry Monster Book of Monsters swatches with writing from the front of the book on them.
I had a fantastic time... not very much sleep but a fantastic time. A big thank you to the guys at Cards Inc for letting us crash their big dinner do, and of course a masssssssssssssssssive thank you to Olly4Kay / Cards2Collectables who sponsored and looked after us like a King and Queen whilst we were there.
Storming on
Posted on 22/11/2004 at 15:37:41 by MakTheYakWell guys, I thought it would be safe to go away for the weekend but no... I thought I could come back and breakthe good news that you lot have entered 500 auctions so far but I'm afraid that's simply not the case. You have gone so much further than that and not the total is close to 600 auctions!! That's fantastic! Well done and thanks to everyone who is devotedly plugging in auctions - we couldn't do it without you guys :)
