Lemmings
Posted on 16/08/2007 at 22:11:09 by MakTheYakWhat a great game.
Seriously that was an awesome game. Really complex with great graphics and sound, especially considering when it was released. Must have been around 1991 or so. Well now you can re-live that experience with DHTML Lemmings! Don't let the stupid acronym confuse you - it just means it runs on Javascript. If you're slightly geeky like me you'll know what an accomplishment that is. If you're not then all you need to know is that this is a faithful recreation of an awesome game. Go play!
If you fancy a game of Marmosettes instead, try the latest Marmaduke strip for size.
It's Wacom-tastic!
Posted on 15/08/2007 at 23:48:27 by MakTheYakHere's a new Marmaduke strip. I touched it up with my new Wacom Intuos3 A5 Wide graphics tablet. It's a thing of beauty. I'll just go over some of the stats that make people go WHOA!
- Over 1000 levels of pressure sensitivity
- Over 5000 dpi resolution when sensing pen position (that's very accurate)
- 3 different nibs to give different tactile feedback when using the pen
- 8 customisable buttons
The thing is huge - it is as wide as my keyboard which gives me plenty of space to work with when getting creative. I love it!
Cooking shows are great
Posted on 14/08/2007 at 21:11:14 by MakTheYakI'm getting really inspired by various cooking shows. I really want to try all these amazing recipes they come up with but there are two main factors stopping me. Firstly it's time. I barely find time to wash up after a ready meal, let alone a properly prepared feast and that's not even taking into account the time it would take to cook. Secondly its the ingredients. All the ingredients on these shows look so fresh and lovely. I go shopping once a week. Fresh stuff doesn't look so fresh 6 days later, and even if it did you always have to buy at least twice as much of any one ingredient than you need. This means you either waste the rest or have to find another recipe that uses the same ingredients as the other!
What would be really useful is this: some kind of system that will give you recipes for a week that overlap in their ingredients and that knows the sort of quantities these things are packed in at the supermarket. That would be an absolute winner! Of course it wouldn't be that simple - it would have to know how many people would be eating for each meal you are cooking. And it wouldn't be able to take into consideration any amazing deals you found in the reduced section, either. And hence I conclude that you have to just have some kind of immense supercomputer-like brain to store all the recipes and process the required ingredients in real time at the supermarket. Simple really.
Oh you were just here for a new Marmaduke comic?
It still counts, I tell you!
Posted on 13/08/2007 at 23:13:45 by MakTheYakJust because when I hit submit it will be Tuesday it doesn't mean I missed Monday's comic update! The comics was updated on Monday and I actually started writing this post on Monday.
Fab weekend - we went to see 'In Celebration' starring (amongst others) Orlando Bloom. Critics have praised his acting and described his Northern accent as 'perfect'. I'd say his acting was great but his accent was a little ropey in places. It was a really enjoyable performance, though, and the Duke of York theatre is quite small hence it felt like quite an intimate experience.
Marmaduke update
Posted on 09/08/2007 at 21:22:04 by MakTheYakSorry, I don't have anything particularly interesting to say today except have you seen the new iMacs? and here's another Marmaduke update! I probably won't be able to do any more over the weekend until Sunday or maybe Monday night but don't worry - they will return!
