Site breakage
Posted on 03/11/2007 at 00:49:40 by MakTheYakWell, the site seems a bit broken at the moment. Not that you'd know it by looking at it but it is no longer letting me upload comics. Add to that that the control panel is broken and from this end things are not looking promising. Fortunately I have an answer! Yes, I'm moving hosts. I've been meaning to for a couple of months now and this is just spurring me into action. So really sorry about the lack of comic updates, but rest assured that I'm still working away on the comics getting them ready to upload when the facilities become available once more...
Do you know what's cool? I got an email from someone in my forthcoming workplace inviting me to an office night out on Wednesday. Now although that is very nice, and somewhat cool in itself, what's really cool is that when I hovered over the phrase 'next Wednesday' in Mail, it highlighted and offered to create a calendar entry for me! So naturally I accepted and blow me down if it didn't automatically work out the address from the email and add that as the location! That's some clever stuff, man. Go buy a Mac! Go on!
Leopard is good, Mail is a pain in the ass
Posted on 01/11/2007 at 13:22:22 by MakTheYakSo the only problem I've had in the big upgrade to Leopard is Mail (or Mail.app for the geeks). Transporting my messages from the old version of Mail to the new was far from an easy process. My .mac account is supposed to sync all my account details and so I kind of expected all my accounts to appear in Mail automatically. They didn't. Even when I did a manual sync from my laptop they wouldn't copy onto my iMac. So I ended up copying them in manually, setting each one up as a new account. Once I'd done that it recognised them but then it tried to sync again and started wanting to delete, modify and otherwise mess about with everything.
Long and the short of it is that I've turned off account syncing. I don't think it works very well! Once I had all the accounts in I copied in my old Mail folder and it converted all my messages and the world was good again.
Good enough to upload another Marmaduke! Enjoy!
Leopard rocks
Posted on 30/10/2007 at 13:42:53 by MakTheYakFor those of you who don't know, I'm a big fan of Apple products. And so of course I was in the queue when the new Operating System - Leopard - launched on Friday. Having spent a few days with it, I've now concluded that it looks slicker, seems to run faster and is generally lovely. The only down side is that it's not exactly ground-breaking. But when what you're improving upon is already excellent, I guess you've got a tougher job.
As you use it you begin to notice little things that are different. I think it's the details that make the biggest overall difference to the experience. Many have been mentioned before but one I've noticed that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere else is the iCal icon. Previously you've had to have iCal running for the icon to display today's date. Now it displays it whether it's running or not. Not a huge update but it makes the experience better. If you don't own a Mac, now's a good time to get one! (Well, it's a good time to get an iMac. If you're after a laptop you may want to wait until they release the new models).
Marmaduke is up to not good again. What a little scamp he is!
Only a week to go
Posted on 29/10/2007 at 12:06:03 by MakTheYakA week left till I start at the BBC! Luckily I'm on holiday for that week and so I'm just getting some work done and tidying things up a bit. Hopefully I'll get the rest of these Marmaduke strips up as part of that!
Long overdue news post
Posted on 24/10/2007 at 17:09:50 by MakTheYakI know it's kind of late but here's a couple of strips for you. Been kind of busy recently, finishing up at my old job and preparing for the next.
Part of my preparations included the purchase of the rather natty new iPod touch. It's lovely and you can check out the Yak Shack on it no problems. Hopefully in the not too distant future I'll put some groovy formatting into the site to make it look even better, or maybe just have a cool application type thing to view the comics. That would be awesome. My mind is running into overdrive, I'd better stop thinking before it overheats!
