Oops, it's been a while...
Posted on 16/06/2004 at 22:44:44 by MakTheYakSorry about that folks... first a shabby desktop update, and then a week missed completely without even so much as a hint of a news update! Shocking! Well at least you got your Bobs on Sunday...

Hope that sets things back in the swing! Right... so what have I been up to? Well I've been busy. Main thing on the agenda was an ace skating workshop run by Eddy Matzger which I went to with Roz about a week and a half ago. It taught everyone, no matter what their experience, how to skate fast and efficiently from the ground up. It was really fun but totally exhausing, as it was a full 8 hours of intense exercise both days of the weekend. Couldn't help but feel good after I did it though. - nothing like a good bit of exercise! If you want a laugh here are some photos of me and Roz.
Also, we've seen the Harry Potter movie which was ace and I'd recommend it to anyone! Hooray! Today we saw Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind which isn't really a current movie any more but it was the only thing on that we haven't seen already! It's very... interesting. I'd say it's quite a good movie, and it's nice the way the plot comes together in the end, and because of the way it's told it leaves you thinking about different parts of it after it finishes. However the plot isn't that deep and I don't think it would benefit from a re-viewing. Actually I think it would probably ruin it to watch it again as you will then know exactly what's going on. Anyway, if you're stuck for anything else, rent this when it comes out. You might just like it!
Right well it's getting a bit late and it's definitely time for me to turn in - I'm yawning all over the place!
Quick! Run! The weather is coming!
Posted on 02/06/2004 at 23:53:19 by MakTheYakYeah, run as fast as you can cos you will outrun the 'supercooled' air at the center of the storm... not. Well as you might have guessed, I have just seen "The Day After Tomorrow" and actually it's an OK movie. If you can shed from your mind all reasonable science knowledge and assumptions. The story was as you may expect in any disaster movie - you get a little bit with the President and the 'big picture' and then you focus in on the individuals who, despite all odds being stacked against them, somehow manage to survive. Sorry, I hope I didn't ruin the ending.
Bring a coat, however, because I swear they turn up the AC a notch or two just for effect. Either that or the visual effects are just so good that you will feel cold just looking at them. I said good... not accurate. Anyway, I have a lot of negative stuff to say about the film but at the end of the day it's pretty good for a bit of light entertainment. Pleased I got it on the Orange two for one offer, anyway!
Obviously I saw Harry Potter already and that was pretty great too. It has it's good points, it's bad points and it's excellent points. But to avoid this getting much longer, I'm just going to redirect you to the forum where we've been discussing it a bit and picking it apart. Talking of Harry Potter, we're actually running a competition to win some limited edition Harry Potter trading cards, but it's only open to forum members so hurry and join up if you're not a member already!
You might be wondering where the Pirates! have got to this week... well I've been a bit busy, but I do have a little something for you:
You know the drill... right click, set as wallpaper. Hope you like!
Downtime
Posted on 27/05/2004 at 23:47:56 by MakTheYakWell folks you may have noticed a bit of downtime, particularly when you checked in for your Wednesday pirates strip (you did check in, didn't you?).

I'm afraid the downtime was due to someone uploading a bad script that did all sorts of nasty things to Apache and basically the Server Administrator ramped up the security settings so high no one could actually see the site. Daft eh? It takes all sorts.
We have signed up for the Eddy Matzger skate workshop which is in about a week and a half - really looking forward to that. It's a weekend of intense skating tutorials with famed speed skater Eddy Matzger and it's going to be FUN! Don't talk to me afterwards though, I'm likely to be a very small heap on the sofa and not very conscious.
In other news, don't forget to vote!!! Thanks to everyone who checks back regular-like... I'll make it yet...!
Happy Birthday (to me)
Posted on 19/05/2004 at 14:57:41 by MakTheYakThe tradition is that you buy a cake on your birthday to share with all your workmates in the office. Now I'm not going to get into how wrong I think that is (shouldn't people be buying you stuff on your birthday?!?) but as I'm not in the office today, I don't have to! Instead I have decided to give you all another Pirates strip (didn't see that coming did you?)

In other news, if any of you are into Harry Potter, and also collectable trading cards, Roz has set up a section in the forum to discuss just that! And I have to say it has livened up the forums considerably. So go there and talk it up! Soon we will have a sub-site from the Yak Shack dedicated to the same topic and so look out for that in the future...

This is the 14th Pirates strip, and so it's full colour! Woohoo!
That is all. It's late and I'm tired! (and no, it's not 5.30am like it says - it's only 1.30. The server is 4 hours fast for some reason!)
