I love RSS so much I've started writing it for other people!
Posted on 09/04/2006 at 23:41:31 by MakTheYakIt's true, RSS is a bit of a lifesaver for me. If I went to every site individually to read all the news, comics, blogs etc that I like to keep up with on a daily basis, I think that would pretty much take up my entire life. Then thank the Lord for RSS which lets me condense it all into one window with direct links and summaries.
Think, then, how I feel when one of my favourite web comics, PvP, doesn't have an RSS feed? I sometimes go for weeks without a fix beccause I'm just too busy to check the site. But for no longer!
I have created a feed which sucks the comics from PvP and lets anyone subscribed to it trickle them in via RSS. Marvelous! I hope this is some use to some people other than just myself so please subscribe away!
Look at me! I'm a published writer!
Posted on 26/03/2006 at 22:36:29 by MakTheYakJust now I got an email from Brendan from Nintendo Thumbs, a site dedicated to the Nintendo Game & Watch collection, asking if he could reprint my article on Shigeru Miyamoto signing my Zelda Game & Watch. Read the article on Nintendo Thumbs here!
Thanks Brendan!
Back from the Con'
Posted on 14/03/2006 at 13:44:17 by MakTheYakThe verdict? Good! It was fun and I met a lot of nice people, some who even said they read Pirates already... awesome! I sold a t-shirt and a DS Skin along with a whole load of comics, badges and postcards, and of course I did some sketches for the folk who asked for them :)
Special hellos go out to Joff, Chris, Bridgeen and a bunch of others whos links I don't have to hand but I'll add later (promise).
So to all who came along to see us and especially to those who bought stuff, thanks! And to all those new readers who are coming here for the first time after the con then welcome... have a look at the archives and I hope you stick around! The strip's updated once a week and to remind you when it's out you can either sign up to the RSS Feed or you can register with the site (no charge!) to receive email updates.
Something that escaped my attention was that a couple of weeks ago marked the 100th Pirates! strip, so Happy Centenery Cap'n and the rest of the crew! This weeks is actually strip 102 and so I'm a bit late but hey... I'll try and remember the 150th on time!
Something that surprised me a bit was the fact that I didn't sell any of the fab MagLights featured below. Perhaps people didn't realise what a quality product the MagLight is? Either way, I'm opening it up to the web... if you want one, the price is £10 plus £2 shipping within the UK. I haven't got around to actually building a shop into the site yet, so if you are in the UK and want one, just use the Paypal Donate button and send £12 to me, making sure you say in the comments that it's for a MagLight. If you are outside of the UK, contact me with your details and we'll talk postage.
Less than a week
Posted on 05/03/2006 at 21:40:24 by MakTheYak...until the Comix Thing! Definitely looking forward to it, should be a good laugh. And don't think I haven't been busy getting things ready for it - just look at this smashing mini standee I've had made:
I've already got a Cap'n and a Polly standee from the Bristol Con last year and so this year Pete gets added to the collection. I'm planning on having a new one made every time I do a convention until I have a complete crew ready for action!
And secondly the pièce de resistance:
The lights are going to be on sale for a mere £10 - that's less than the RRP of these little beauties and you get the logo and characters too! You can't go wrong with that!
Of course I will be selling the usual comic booklets, t-shirts, badges and Nintendo DS skins so I hope to see you all down there - it should be an excellent day out!
News post!
Posted on 08/02/2006 at 02:17:28 by MakTheYakBoring title, but at this time in the morning what more do you want?
So I'm getting all geared up for the Comix Thing and I thought "Why not shake things up a bit and bring along some interesting new merchandise?" What is it? That's a secret. Only a little one, but it's a real bright idea, trust me. I doubt you'll see anyone else selling these which will just add to my arsenal...
That's right I'm bringing it all back! We'll have the T-Shirts, the Nintendo DS skins, the badges both big and small and of course the mini collection - the first 56 strips ever of all the Pirates! comics. In glorious print! You'll want to buy one and you won't even know why! And naturally I'll be dishing out sketches for anyone who wants one, although you'll have to join the queue I expect. The queue of AIR.
I think I'm basing my expectations upon my experience of the last Bristol Comicon and actually I think it's quite likely that this will be 10x better than that to exhibit at so fingers crossed, eh? And if you're coming along, definitely stop by and tell me "Hey! I read your strip and I think it's...(choose appropriate word)" cos I'll never know if you don't tell me!
Oh, one more thing - James Turner of Beaver and Steve fame has produced a delightful cover for his upcoming Beaver and Steve book. I urge you to go buy it as it's rather fab!
