Corsair... another name for a Pirate
Posted on 27/07/2006 at 20:49:51 by MakTheYakOr so I'm told. So in fact it's a little less surprising (but no less COOL) to see that the memory company Corsair have a slightly less than usual language option on their memory configurator page.
Another thing I was told is that a Red Snapper is a very tasty fish. I haven't decided that for myself yet as it's still cooking but what whoever told me that DIDN'T tell me was the sheer amount of scales those guys have on them. "Make sure the snapper is washed and de-scaled" it says. Easier said than done. Trust me - next time I'm getting it scaled and filleted. I can see why they're called Red Snappers though... nasty little set of teeth they've got on 'em! Still, it doesn't matter so long as it tastes good, that's what I say.
So as you might have guessed I've seen Pirates of the Caribbean. Twice now, but let's not rule out a third viewing! But with all the other blockbusters on at the moment it's quite difficult to fit in repeat viewings without missing out on others altogether. For example I think I'm probably going to have to wait for Over The Hedge to come out on DVD.
Superman was excellent - anyone who hasn't seen it needs to get out there now and watch. Same goes for Pirates, although if I had to recommend one over the other it'd probably be Superman right now. What's this? Superman over Pirates? Has the world gone mad? Well the reasoning's simple. Superman was just a more fulfilling experience for me. When I went in I didn't know that Pirates was going to do a Lord of the Rings on me... concludes / continues next year I guess. I hope that didn't ruin anything for anyone, the only thing I can think of that it might have spoiled is the surprise and mild annoyance at the lack of an ending.
Don't get me wrong here (because I think I'm giving off a rather negative vibe) I loved the movie, total class it was and really lived up to the first. It's just that now we've all got to wait a year (A YEAR!) for the next installment. Pshhh oh well. Like I said there's plenty of other movies to keep up busy and of course if you need your Pirate fix, you can always drop by here every week (which I'm sure you do already so really there's little point in reminding you...).
Well that's it, I'd better go off and see what my Snapper tastes like... keep those sails a-filled maties and always watch the depths for you-know-what!
Press Start to Laugh
Posted on 09/06/2006 at 23:36:31 by MakTheYakJust stumbled across a rather amusing comic called Press Start To Play. It's (obviously) centered around video games so if that sounds like your thing hop on over there and check it out. The art is distinctive and fun and the colours are rich. Very nice to look at. And it's funny! What more can you ask for?
Oh I know - you could ask for it to be British. Oh wait! It is! These folks are from Northern Ireland. Sweet!
Whoops...
Posted on 04/06/2006 at 16:47:58 by MakTheYakThe more observant of you may have noticed the lack of a comic last week. My sincerest apologies to those people. Everyone else, well what are you complaining about? You didn't even notice! I think life just got in the way and so I just had a break from it all that weekend. But now it's back to business and you should be getting your weekly comic fix on schedule again!
This comic marks the beginning of the last 'week' of comics before I have enough to make another book! Joy! I know there are people out there who much prefer their comics to be on paper than on screen and so this should be good news for them...
I am actually toying with the idea of getting all the comics from the start printed in a larger volume. While this I can see would be bad for those who bought the first one already, it would be a lot better quality (ie I wouldn't be personally stapling it together on my living room floor... but in that case you wouldn't get the pink staples. The dilema!) and I'd add a little commentry on the strips like seems to be the fashion these days. It's kind of like the main feature and the extras disc all in one and on paper instead of your telly.
If you bought the first book and then you bought the second book and found all the strips from the first book in there as well, would you feel cheated despite the better quality and commentry etc? Let me know!
Code Monkey Get Up, Get Coffee...
Posted on 14/05/2006 at 00:51:39 by MakTheYakI am writing to inform the general world about a great thing. Well to be accurate it's two great things and just to make things simpler, let's approach them in the order I discovered them...
First there's a periodical streaming virtual gaming chat show called Trash Talk (or Tra5h T4lk to give it it's proper title). It's really rather good. It's hosted by Ill Will, a professional stunt double ragdoll in many top games and co-hosted by Mal, an excitable missile. Also on set is a zombie, but let's not talk about him. It's all CG and pretty good CG at that. The writing is very good and actually had me laughing out loud at points (not good for viewing during working hours!). They make many topical jokes about the games industry and most recently created a music video, which tidily brings me onto the next cool thing.
The music video is for a song called Code Monkey which I truely belive is a song written from the heart of someone who's been there. Touched by this song I looked into it further and discovered it to be written by a certain Jonathan Coulton. Jonathan, it turns out, seems to be a very talented guy and currently churns out a new song every week. You can even track his composing progress with an RSS feed. I have listened to a few of his tracks so far but Code Monkey remains my favourite! You can listen to his tracks for free on his website or buy them to listen to on your chosen MP3 device for a mere $1 a piece. Go get some!
Lots and lots of cool stuff
Posted on 22/04/2006 at 22:16:07 by MakTheYakWell writing that PVP RSS feed didn't really do a lot in eliciting any kind of conversation from Scott Kurtz which is weird. Not that I wanted to become pen pals or anything but you'd think if someone wrote to you telling you they'd written a smashing feed for your feedless-yet-incredibly-popular comic you'd at least be able to dash off a 'Thanks' email or even a 'I've taken out a restraining order on my Intellectual Property against you!' email. But just nothing. Oh well, instead I've been talking to to Eddie over at Edd Egg and the rest of Bollox Comics about RSS feeds and making sure his RSS Feed is operational.
Also, I've taken a screwdriver to my lovely new DS lite because I was so intruiged about what was under the cover of that GBA slot cover. It had contacts on it so there must be something interesting, right? Wrong. Full details are on GoNintendo because they were foolish forbearing interested enough to post a short article on it!
Finally in this little bulletin of cool, the coolest thing of all: Channel Frederator! What is it? It's a weekly Video Podcast of a fifteen minute episode of short animated films. Mostly funny, sometimes cute, always excellent. I want in. How much is it? It's free. Won't cost you a bean. This is part of what makes it so awesome. Subscribe to it through iTunes and it'll download automagically and delight you on a weekly basis! Also, for the nostalgic, there's ReFrederator which does the same only it's daily and it's classic cartoons whose copyright have expired on them (so don't worry kids, it's all completely legal!).
Here ends todays lesson.
